Arrival in beautiful and sunny Yorkshire
10 juni 2023 - Husthwaite, Verenigd Koninkrijk
After a relaxed drive from Apeldoorn to Nieuwegein we joined Klaas Jan & Regina on a hot drive through the very busy Friday afternoon traffic to Europoort. There the P&O ferry - ship, boat, vessel….? - was already waiting for us.
As soon as we parked the cars in the belly of the ship, we found our cabins and then straight to the bar …….
Where R tried to set the right course towards Britannia….
We enjoyed a very good gourmet dinner before the ship threw the trusses loose and with full sunshine sailed off to the very smooth North sea…
After a while on the windy sun deck we went in for another beer where Klaas Jan lost his wallet and after some stressful moments found it again in his cabin…..Almost a disastrous start………
Jennie & Rene went to their bunks early while KJ&R even watched a live musical on board…
We all slept very well but had to get up terribly early for our reserved breakfast at 6:30….and off course full English and eggs Benedict with a lot of coffee from our very friendly and happy Philippine waiter.
As soon as the ship embarked we all found our beloved cars again waiting for us on the car deck.
And after the usual queue for the customs we finally took off onto the long awaited Yorkshire roads. And we realstayed at the left side of the roads quite easily….
After leaving the Hull area we ‘jumped’ quite smoothly into the rolling hills of Yorkshire.
With a short sanitary stop at some old ruined abbey and past the gates of Howard Castle we saw a sign to the Lavender Gardens nearby. The night before KJ mentioned it already and (of course) R did not want to believe that lavender was growing outside the south of France before he had googled it himself….And here it was, in the middle of Yorkshire. Unfortunately not yet blooming, but the lavender cheese cake was fabulous!
After this coffee break straight on to ourhome base in Husthwaite: the Plum & Partridge Pub. A beautiful and snug place, fully renovated with very clean and large rooms. And of course good food and Beer! Italian style: Peroni or Birra Moretti plus a very good local lager for KJ.
We arrived very early before noon, had some drinks and while we had lunch we heard the well known music of a Nord engine and yes, Brian turned up in his beautiful Giulia.
While exchanging all experiences and stories, J&R found out they left their electricity adapters at home so they could not charge all iPads, iPhones and hearing aids….
So they left to the nearest village to score some adapters, but finally had to go to the bigger city Thirsk to find them.
Now back at the Plum, showering and taking some rest and starting with this first real chapter of this travel blog…..
